What Locs Actually Cost in the DFW Area: Real Prices From 79 Salons
Why this is hard to find out
Try to find out what locs cost in DFW and you will hit a wall. Most cost guides online quote numbers that are not close to what real salons charge. Most salons do not publish prices at all, especially for the expensive services.
So we did the work. We collected every published price we could find from loc providers across Dallas, Fort Worth, Arlington, and sixteen surrounding cities, taking numbers only from salons' own booking pages rather than from articles. That came to 310 individual prices from 79 providers.
Here is what the market actually looks like.
The numbers
Traditional loc retwist: the median is around $112, with most salons falling between $95 and $130.
Starter locs, traditional size: median around $158, with most between $150 and $204.
Interlock maintenance: median around $150, with most between $125 and $180.
Micro loc retie or maintenance: median around $188, with most between $160 and $225.
Micro loc installation: median around $512, but this is where the spread explodes. The range across the metro runs from roughly $250 to $1,500.
Sisterlocks installation: median around $1,000, with most providers between $900 and $1,050.
The six-fold spread, explained
That micro loc installation range is not a mistake. The same service, in the same metro, from providers sometimes twenty minutes apart, ranges across a factor of six.
Some of that is genuine. Loc count matters enormously. A 200-loc install and a 450-loc install are different jobs. Length matters, density matters, and whether extensions are added matters.
But some of it is just inconsistent pricing in a market with no benchmark. Stylists have nothing to compare against, so some underprice their time badly and some price aggressively, and clients have no way to tell which is which.
Why installs cost more per hour than maintenance
One pattern in the data is worth knowing if you are budgeting your year.
When you convert prices to an hourly rate using the time salons schedule, micro loc installation works out to roughly $83 an hour at the median. Micro loc maintenance works out to roughly $54. A traditional retwist is around $50.
What that means practically: the install is the expensive day, but maintenance is the real cost. At a $188 median every five weeks, micro loc maintenance runs around $1,900 a year. That is more than most installs.
When you are deciding between loc sizes, the maintenance cost over three years matters more than the install price. Smaller locs mean more locs, which means longer and more expensive maintenance appointments, forever.
The Sisterlocks premium
Sisterlocks installation runs about double a micro loc installation at the median, $1,000 versus $512.
Some of that reflects a real difference. Sisterlocks is a trademarked, certified system with a specific technique, specific tools, and consultants who completed formal training. You are paying for a credential as well as the work.
Interestingly, that premium largely disappears on maintenance. Sisterlocks retightening and micro loc maintenance sit at almost the same median, around $188. The gap is concentrated almost entirely in the install.
Two things to watch for when you are quoted
First, when a price is listed as starting at a number, treat that as a floor rather than an estimate. In our dataset, 28% of published prices were starting-at figures. That almost always means length or loc count will move it upward.
Second, when a salon will not give you any number before a paid consultation, that is worth noticing. Sometimes it is legitimate, because the price genuinely depends on things you cannot assess from a photo. But the pattern across the market is that transparency drops as the price rises. The services most likely to be hidden behind a consultation are the thousand-dollar ones.
How to use this
If a quote is well below the ranges above, ask how many hours is scheduled. Sometimes it is a genuinely good rate. Sometimes it means the appointment is rushed, or that add-on charges are coming.
If a quote is well above, ask what the price includes. Longer sessions, higher loc counts, included shampoo or detox, and a stylist who specializes rather than offering locs as one item among many are all reasonable justifications.
And ask for the estimated time alongside the price. The hourly number tells you more than the sticker price does.
What we charge
Our full service menu, with prices and estimated times, is published on our booking page. We think you should be able to find that out before you call.
We serve Royse City, Fate, Rockwall, Caddo Mills, Greenville, Terrell, and the surrounding communities.
Prices in this article reflect published rates collected in late 2026 across the DFW metro and will change over time. They are offered as a benchmark, not a quote.
