Updated: Feb 20, 2022

3 Amazing tips to feel confident about your dreadlock journey!

I'm ready to start my Loc Journey! Those words may not mean much to you, but they are music to my ears. As a master dreadlock loctician I am super excited when a client is ready to take that leap of faith.

3 Important Tips

Starting your dreadlocks is a big deal, it takes patience, courage, and comes with a whole host of emotions most people never see coming. There are three parts when embarking on this journey. 1. Making the decision to start your dreadlocks is the first step 2. Deciding just what type of dreadlocks will be right for you. 3. The most important is finding the right locsmith (loctician) that will cultivate your dreadlocks for years to come.

Booking the right loctician

That's where I come in. I bring not only my expertise as a master stylist, but also as a person who wears dreadlocks myself, I have firsthand experience on just how awesome the journey is. Now here are a few tips I will give you when deciding. First keep an open mind and explore all the different styles of dreadlocks for instance, do you like palm roll dreadlocks, which are different and eclectic and can vary. Do you prefer interlocking, a much more uniform look to your loc, a tighter lock for some hair textures? Are you intrigued by the microlocks, or sisterlocks ,and yes there is a difference between the two styles?

The Important of Maintenance

A lot of thought goes into picking the right look and feel for you so don't rush your decision. Next there is haircare, I prefer natural retwist products and oils as opposed to gels and waxes, just my personal preference. Then there is the most important which is maintenance. Cultivating dreadlocks takes love and dedication. Making sure your dreadlocks are moisturized and protected will be something you will need to take seriously in order to avoid dryness and breakage.

Lets get your journey started!

If you have ever typed in loctician near me, dreadlocks salon near me, or how to start dreadlocks this can be your first and last stop. These are just a few of my top tips when looking to start your dreadlocks. You will go through several different emotions during the process, one day you will love them, other days you will question did you make the right decision. Word of advice be patient with your hair, detach yourself from the always slick down edges, and divorce the notion of every hair being in place. Dreadlocks are like life, they are unpredictable, they are perfectly imperfect. Lastly, trust the process fall in love with your dreadlocks at every stage, there is no such thing as a dreadlock destination. That's why we call it a journey. Courtney Owens -Locsmith-
